So much has been going on that I haven’t had a chance to update everyone. The Art Show was a great success. The children were so proud of all their hard work! Art works will be making their way home in the near future. They looks so lovely in the cafeteria that we hate to see them leave.
Our mural was installed at Mass Port! Students from last year’s painting event and this year’s mural painting were present at the unveiling and enjoyed meeting Ambassador Flynn and many more of our local politicians. Let’s not forget the pizza, live Calypso music and balloon artists!
The art room is being updated with new (to us) tables which the children seem to love. I’m hoping to carefully plan and rearrange it with different art centers before the year is out.
Grade one has been painting pussy willows and designing colorful vases for them this week. In grade 1 we are making Black Forest Clocks and creating wood look paper with special brushes and paint. Grade 2A has started painting fields of poppies while 2B worked on drawing “falling pictures” (picture day, no paint please!).  In grade 3 we have been learning how to draw like an Egyptian after reading one of my favorite books “Who Built the Pyramids” by Meredith Hooper. Grade 4 is designing board games which they will create and then play in class. In grade 5 we are doing Claymation! I look forward to sharing the finished videos with you. In the meantime check out this silly stop motion animation we created in 5B. Our grade 6 just completed their James Rizzi style cityscapes. They did an awesome job and the pictures have been a big attraction hung in the hallway.
Please stop by Artsonia and check out all the latest stuff!

Being an art teacher is one of the greatest jobs in the world. Where else do you get to be with great kids and basically have fun all day long? Okay, there is work involved. To be an artist you must learn the language of art. Just like we learn the alphabet and put those letters together to form words and sentences before we can read books we need to learn the elements of art to help us to become lifelong  artists.
